WHAT IS FIRST ?
FIRST is a program started by founder Dean Kamen. He started the competition to help inspire an interest in science and technology in young people. After a combination of six total weeks for designing and building robots, teachers, mentors, professionals, and students are excited to test them on the playing field so that they can come out on top at the competition. In, 2013, FIRST had roughly 60,000 students involved worldwide, that means a total of about 2,600 teams. The FRC has teams from every single state in the United States as well as from countries as close as the Mexico and as far as China. Participants in FIRST gain not only a love for learning, but they build lasting relationships that will continue to prosper.
The Mission of FIRST is:
“Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”
