Aerial assist is played with two alliances that are three robots each. The match begins with the 10-second Autonomous Period in which robots compete by shooting balls (measuring 2 feet in diameter and weighing 2 pounds) into goals of high and low heights independent of their drivers. After the autonomous period , the drivers take their stations and for a 2 minute and 20 second match, shoot, pass, and catch balls. The more assists a team attains, the more points are received. Assists are defined as a pass and receive/catch from robot to robot between the three separate zones (red, white, and blue). Points can also be attained by shooting the balls over a 5' truss which is located in the center of the court.
